출산 당시 산부인과 의사가 분만을 유도할 때 ‘뚝’하는 소리를 느끼는 경우가 많고, 그렇지 않더라도 분만 후 골절 부위가 변형이 되어 있어 외견상 진단에 어려움은 없다.
 
전체 분만의 0.3~1.8%에서 발생하는 비교적 흔한 합병증이다. 신생아의 신체 중에서 어깨부분이 가장 크기 때문이다.

신생아 시기에 수술 없이 뼈를 맞추고 밖에서 고정하는 정도로도 쉽게 치료할 수 있다. 더군다나 신생아 시기에는 뼈가 유합되는 ‘개수능력’이 뛰어나 골절의 후유증이 거의 남지 않고 잘 치료되는 편이다.

 팔의 움직임에 장애가 있는 경우 신경손상을 의심해볼 수 있습니다. 만일, 분만과정에서 난산으로 인한 상완신경총마비 등으로 현 장애가 발생하였다
 
 
 If an infant sustains a clavicle fracture during childbirth, healing usually occurs without the requirement of a treatment
Careful handling of the child is sufficient enough. The healthcare provider may suggest proper baby handling techniques (related to lifting the baby, proper positioning, etc.)
Occasionally, a physician may immobilize the affected side by using the infants sleeve as a splint. An icepack can help subside the swelling in the shoulder
If necessary, the physician may prescribe pain medication
Follow-up X-rays are used to determine how the fracture heels
