 +야후는 2011년 텀블러를 11억 달러(약 1조 2,800억 원)에 인수했고, 버라이즌이 2017년 야후를 45억 달러(약 5조 2,400억 원)에 인수하면서 주인이 바뀌었다. 
  
 +페이스북, 인스타그램, 트위터 같은 대형 SNS 가운데에서도 텀블러가 버틸 수 있었던 것은 성인 콘텐츠를 규제하지 않아서다. 하지만 2018년 11월 애플은 아동 음란물 유통에 사용됐다며 텀블러 앱을 앱스토어에서 제거했다. 이 사건이 있고 텀블러는 12월 17일부로 모든 성인용 콘텐츠를 전면 차단하기로 하면서 상황이 급변했다. 다른 SNS와 달리 규제가 없던 탓에 성인 콘텐츠가 몰려 일정 사용자를 유지하고 있었지만 차단 발표 후 한 달 만에 텀블러 접속 트래픽은 20%가량 줄었고 2019년 1분기 기준 트래픽은 전년 동기 대비 40%나 감소했다.<del> 망했다.</del>
